Centella asiatica

Gotu kola is often used for “treatment of small wounds, hypertrophic wounds as well as burns, psoriasis and scleroderma” and promotes “fibroblast proliferation and increasing the synthesis of collagen” which makes is very effective for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. [1]


  • Vitamin C and madecassoside were shown to be an attractive combination of two active compounds. They were characterized by “different mechanisms of activity, which exert[ed] an additive or synergistic effect causing the remodeling of the superficial dermis.” [1]
  • Effective for photoaging skin mainly due to enhancement of type I collagen, which amount in skin decreases with age. [1]
  • In a an intra-subject, randomized, assessor-blinded study, study demonstrated 24-hour skin hydration and barrier function effects of a hyaluronic acid 1%, glycerin 5%, and gotu kola (Centella asiatica) stem cells extract moisturizing fluid. A single daily application of the ingredients induced a long-lasting (up to 24 hours) hydrating and moisturizing effect, simultaneously improving the skin barrier function in healthy women. [2]
